The Agora Group is currently organizing
a number of 1 day workshops around the globe, focusing on youth participation
in democracy. The series aims to involve youth in the policy making process
with the eventual goal of creating a collection of policy initiatives
concerning democratic participation. Workshops have taken place in universities
in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and Iowa City, United States, and a further
3 are at the planning stage. These aim to take place in Nottingham in
the United Kingdom, Melbourne in Australia and possibly Belgrade in Serbia
by the middle of 2007.
The Governance and Leadership Conference is in the early stages of development,
with plans to hold it in mid-2006 in Brazil. It aims to bring together
youth from around the globe together for a 1 week conference on issues
of governance, leadership, and democracy. The Agora Group hopes that this
conference will become the first of a series of conferences that endeavour
to create a global network of young people interested in the political
process and eager to participate in policy creation. A full description
of the conference, its aims, and structure will follow shortly.
