As part of the Democracy and Youth Seminar Series The Agora Group organized a student
discussion session that took place on Monday 9th June 2008 at The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus in Kuala Lumpur.
The discussion revolved around the issue of global development and the connection between developed and
developing nations. The main focus for the debate was the situation in Nigeria and the need for increased education and
leadership from within. The role of the elites was examined and discussion focused on the role of both state corruption
and the impact of foreign investment and big business in Africa.
Education was at the heart of the seminar discussion and the need for increased awareness and training was
highlighted as key for combating corruption and forging a path forwards for African Nations and Nigeria in particular.
